Get an Even Skin Tone with Make Up Foundation
Make up foundation is the first of three steps for creating a smoother looking face.
It evens out your skin tone, then concealer is used to cover up blemishes, dark circles, and minor skin imperfections, and lastly, powder helps set the foundation and concealer so that the effect lasts longer.
The goal is to make your skin tone look as natural as possible. Liquid, cream, and pressed powder are the three different forms that are commonly seen for foundation.
Applying Liquid Make Up Foundation
Liquid foundation gives a lightweight to medium coverage, and is applied using your fingers, a sponge, or brush.
Although it is the easiest to apply, it is also easier to apply too much. Liquid foundation is best suited for dry or normal skin types.
After applying liquid foundation, loose translucent powder should be applied to help the effect stay in place, and last longer.
Concealer is applied after liquid foundation, to cover what wasn't covered by the foundation.
- First, make sure your hair is out of your face by tying it back.
- Shake the bottle well, and apply a little bit of foundation to your fingers, or your sponge.
- Apply the foundation to your face using gentle strokes, and remember to apply foundation to your eyelids (this will make an excellent base for your eye shadow).
Make you don't leave streaks on your face because they will make your foundation look unnatural. - Make sure your foundation is well blended, then let it dry.
- Cover any skin imperfections with your concealer, and blend into your surrounding foundation.
- Dust your face with loose translucent powder, to help set your makeup.
Applying Pressed Powder
Because pressed powder is dry, concealer should be applied before. Pressed powder is appropriate for all skin types, and helps to control shine.

It is easy to apply, and can be applied using either a dry or damp sponge. Pressed powder is also convenient because you can carry it in your purse for later touch-ups.
- First, make sure your hair is out of your face by tying it back.
- Cover up any blemishes or red spots with your concealer.
- Apply some pressed powder onto your sponge. Then spread it across your whole face, remember to cover your eyelids.
- Evenly cover your face with pressed powder, then make sure you blend the foundation thoroughly under your jaw line.
How to Apply Cream Make Up Foundation
Cream make up foundation gives the heaviest coverage. Concealer can be applied before or after you use cream foundation.
Cream foundation rarely looks like your natural skin, to others, it will probably look like you are wearing a mask.
- First, make sure your hair is out of your face by tying it back.
- Cover up any blemishes or red spots with your concealer, (this can be done either before or after you put on cream foundation).
- Apply some cream make up foundation onto your sponge. Then spread it across your face, remember to cover your eyelids.
- Dust your face with loose translucent powder, to help set your makeup.
