Eyeliner Makeup Techniques
Eyeliners come in pencil or liquid forms, although make up professionals choose to use eye shadow to line the eyes.
Learning the application using eye pencils requires a good, steady hand, as well as choosing the right color to accentuate your eyes.
Application Tips
- When you are learning how to put on eye liners, remember not to tug at the skin around your eyes during application.

- It is best to stick with more natural colors such as blacks and browns.
- Beginning and endings should be thinner.

If you do get liner outside the area, you can get it off by using a cotton swab dipped in eye make up remover.
Liquid eyeliner can be put on before or after applying eye shadow, but it probably is a good idea to apply it before, just in case you happen to mess up. Application will be much quicker after you learn from practice hot to put on eyeliner.
Steps:
- Tie your hair back so that it won't get in your way. Gently pull your eyelid so that you will have an easier surface to work on.
- Apply liquid liner to the top lash line starting at the inner corner of your eye, and working outwards.
- Make sure you let the liner dry before you move on.
- Using a clean cotton swab, gently smudge the line, if you want an evening effect you don't have to smudge the line.
- If you want an evening effect, apply liquid liner to your bottom eyelashes, (this creates a very harsh effect, so be careful).
Using Pencil Eye Liner
Pencil liner is much easier to apply than liquid liner, and it has a soft look after it is applied.
Pencil liner has its disadvantages though, such as not lasting as long as liquid liner and smudging easier.
To avoid scratching the skin around your eyes, make sure your pencil eyeliner isn't sharp, (you can do this by using a tissue to round the edges).
Steps:
- Tie your hair back so that it won't get in your way.
- Gently pull your eyelid so that you will have an easier surface to work on.
- Apply pencil liner to the bottom lash line starting at the inner corner of your eye, and working outwards.
- You can also apply pencil liner to your top lash line if you want to.
Using Eye shadow
Choose a high quality matte eye shadow that accentuates your eyes as well as your hair color. Learning how to put on liner using eye shadow may take some practice.

- Tie your hair back so that it won't get in your way.
